Is that concrete for the platform? I always wanted to use that material, and now I've seen how it can be done. Great job. You guys have a more realistic NYC apartment that shows what a little money and some love can do!
Nicely done.
It's very nice, in a Pottery Barn kind of way.
Hey, I think you guys meant to post on the Apartment #8 thread...
Yeah, there's something messed up with the link.
The space as configured is really terrific, particularly the partition and the desk area in the entryway. I question using (wasting?) the upstairs space for a guest room that may hardly get any use, though I understand that it's probably difficult to use that space for anything more vertical than sleeping. But I bet you are among the only two people in NYC who live in a studio that has a guest room!
Do these people own anything? Wall of storage aside, it's lovely but scarily neat. I hope they are BOTH obsessive-compulsive.
Very quaint and homey...I love it!! You guys have great taste!!
This is fantastic! I love love love the neatness of it - the bathroom is terrific.
I voted so-so. I think the space is used very well, it looks large because of this and I like the dividers, but this apartment is so neat that it lacks personality.
I would love to see a bit more pattern, a funky chandelier, or some other elements which tell us a little bit more about who lives here.
A good solid use of space, particularly giving the bedroom the prime space, the under-ships-ladder desk and the too-short-loft as guest room / storage.
You've managed to use what you have (a too large armoir in the living room, a shorter than average loft, one set of windows) and make it work. I'm not sure if either of you are big into establishing a library, but the short loft space would hold bookshelves and some sort of low reading spot rather well.
Neatness is a positive, not a negative. I can easily imagine that, with more room, you'd aquire and display many more things. Personally, I think your plants are much more attractive than the cut tulips or daisies. I, do, however understand the need for immediate, inexpensive color (particularly since you've decided to keep almost everything else within warm neutrals).
Your furnishings look clean, inviting and comfortable, the perfect setting in which to entertain guests.
Really, you have a small, cool apartment. Good luck with the contest.
This is vwry well put-together. The space seems to reflect taste that is modern without being fetishistic. They inclue more rustic pieces (the armoire) and use rich colors which give the apt. a warm eclectic feeling. I think they were wise to forego using the loft for their bedroom, while still having a 2d "bedroom" for giving each other a bit of space. The earlier comment about adding books is one with which I agree. The kitchen is great. I love the neatness; the whole apartment seems to say, "we care."
WHAT AN AMAZING USE OF SPACE.
ELEGANT, YET COZY. UPSTARIS LOFT IS VERY INVITING TO SLIP AWAY AND HAVE AN AFTERNOON NAP OR CURL UP WITH A GOOD BOOK ON A RAINY DAY
VERY IMPRESSIVE USE OF LIMITED SPACE. RICH, WARM COLORS. NICE BRIGHT, CLEAN KITCHEN AND BATHROOM.
LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT.
GOOD JOB TO YOU BOTH
I second and third the idea that a library should be placed in the loft. I was also dreaming up the notion that maybe a dual purpose space could coexist in the loft as well. One as a library and/or media/ audio center and two as a guest nook by simply adding low storage benches (that are wide enough to sleep on) with mattresses all along the walls (with a plethora of pillows). This would allow you guys to USE the space all/any (the)time, rather than having the space just exist as a guest bedroom that you may or may not use. Get your moneys worth...I say! Needless to say I love love love your cozy abode even if you say that it's unfinished.
IT IS AMAZING HOW YOU TURNED A EMPTY ROOM INTO A FUNCTIONAL AND INVITING HOME. NEW YORKERS ARE NOT ONLY TRENDY BUT RESOURCEFUL. MAKES ME WANT TO MOVE THERE.
GREAT JOB --
The translucent divider is real clever!
Great Job I can see why so many people want to live in NYC I could easily slip away into the loft area and get lost, with great Jazz playing in the background, you both have done a superior job and made practical and functional use of the space you have, adding warmth and depth the decorating is great, love the mirrors they add an openness showing this is a reflection of you both, the cleanliness is no problem I would stay here anytime. Waiting for an invite please send me an E-Mail would love to view it. Thanks Marianne
Hey guys, nice place!!!You guys should go on to trading spaces and become the interior decorators
and design other peoples homes. The colors are amazing. The room is funcional, cozy, and inviting. You warmed the place up with the reds and beiges and the black adds a masculine feel to the room, however, it is not over powering. the mirrors are a nice touch it give the place the room a widder feeling. Every one here loves it hope you guys enjoy it. Send us an e-mail. Love Kristen, James, Alice, Daniel, And Julia.
This apartment is cute! I like the cut flowers, it shows that you care about your space. Good Luck!
