Hot Tip: Copper Appliances on Craigslist Boston

01.17.craigslist.jpg

Thanks to AT reader Shiba, we can share with you this really cool vintage set of appliances. Although the kitchen appliances are vintage they, unbelievably, have never actually been used! The set includes a fridge/freezer that looks like a small, built-in(?) unit, a dishwasher, cooktop and recirculating hood, and wall oven...

Almost as unbelievable as being unused, the whole set is being offered up for $1000. We can see these appliances being very cool in lots of settings. The set's components are listed as The “Provincial Preway Copper Kitchen”:

-Copper Built-in Custom Preway Refrigerator
(Preway is the predecessor to Whirlpool)

-Copper Wall-Mounted Preway Oven with "Pervaview" Window
Model #382-3C, Serial #33869

-Thermador 4-Burner Electric Rangetop

-Copper "Ductless Hood" over Rangetop

-Copper KitchenAid Automatic Dishwasher by Hobart
Model #KD12P, Serial #480220 (thank you, Shiba!)

Okay, these are cool-looking. But I don't get it. What would you do with vintage appliances, even if they haven't been used? Use them? What about repairs? Just hollow them out and use them for storage?

I'm genuinely confused.

I'd like to know mmore about them and where they're from and WHY they haven't been used. But mostly, I wonder about how energy efficient they are? Can they be really bad for the environment?
