We received this tip from AT reader, Jessica, on how to spruce up a standard clear shower curtain liner. The outcome is dazzling. Thanks, Jessica!
I've had a poster up in my hallway for a few years. It is of a geometric shape that my mathematician father made me. I came up with the idea of transferring it to a clear shower curtain liner by tracing it with a sharpie. I took the poster and taped it to the liner, flipped it over and then went to work with the sharpie. After about 45 minutes of tracing it was done...
It is an easy way to make a custom shower curtain without much
effort. It took me less than an hour from start to finsih despite
the complexity of the image. If you don't have a large image to
trace, it can be done with an overhead or slide projector. Sharpies,
which are waterproof, come in lots of colours now, so you have some
flexibility concerning the design.
Shower curtain liners are inexpensive, so this is the kind of thing
you could change a couple of times a year. I'd love to see someone
use Matisse line drawings, do their own freehand drawings, draw one of those trees that everyone seems quite taken with these days, or just set the kids free with sharpies.
FYI, most shower curtains can be dyed, using standard "union" dyes such as RIT brand. Custom colors.
love it, great idea!
I love sharpies & vinyl shower curtains - this is brilliant! I will definitely create my own!
Thanks for the kind words. It was one of those projects I'd been thinking about doing for ages but kept putting it off because I thought it would be painful. I just laid the whole thing down on my living room floor and drew while listening to music.
I'd love to see what you guys make!

this plus the stencil post could make some beautiful curtains
that would be a great birthday party activity for kids. you could just spread it on the floor with the markers and let them all go to town on it.
