Josef Frank's Jayne Sofa is one of the most hideous pieces of furniture I've ever seen.
Hey, I was kind of liking the sofa -- but it's definitely more Haight-Ashbury than Upper West Side.
That kind of yellow-based, saturated pastel looks really good in San Francisco's grayish ambient light, which may explain a lot about 1960s psychedelia.
The headboard looks like it might either be a Suzani (Suzni?) or based on them.
Suzani is a type of traditional tribal Uzbek embroidery (the word even translates as "needlework" or "needle" depending on who you talk to).
Traditionally, the Uzbek girls & young women would create a collection of these for their dowry. Some are really awesome.
You can get them relatively cheaply online although more often than not the colors are a lot bolder than this one.
If you find the right piece you could easily make, or have someone make, a headboard like this.
Google for "Suzani" or variations on it and you'll get more ideas.
They can be gorgeous as art.
Love the carpet/headboard. Any ideas where I can get one?
Some Suzanis I found with a quick search. Either of these are big enough for headboards although the colors are pretty bold. These two are around a couple hundred bucks each...not unreasonable considering they were stitched by hand. You can find Suzanis with subtle colors although the more subtle the colors, the higher the prices in general.
