Odd Mix. Stories are all over the place this week—nothing too fascinating. Design blogs are discussed in Room to Improve and Maxwell is quoted...

No, no, no, the Democratic Lawmakers under the same roof story was hilarious! (Maybe it's cause I live in DC...slinks away...)

They did the exact same Democratic Lawmakers under the same roof story two years ago.

The major letdown in the book story was the lack of an adequate picture of the climbing book tower. The centerpiece of the story!

For more pictures of the Tower of Books house go to http://www.officeda.com/ - the website's a little hard to navigate but they can be found in the residences section under Back Bay House.

I've been looking for a segment of tree trunk for a bedside table for some time now. I don't want any frou-frou treatments - no ebonizing, no shellacking, just a bark-free tree trunk a bit taller than what was being shown in the Personal Shopper slideshow.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I thought the lawmaker story was pretty cute but it did seem very familiar

I saw the print version at lunch today, and there were a lot more pictures of the book-centric stairway...FYI

No one mentions Eva Ziesel? I think this is an interesting topic. Been there. Not morbid at all. I think the idea of these artsy "urns" is fabulous. Why not lighten the load?

5 years ago when I graduated from school and moved out , I carried with me 3 logs - with nice knots, shape and size. My room mates called me wierd. These wooden logs still adorn my minimalistic decor. Other accompaniments are a pink pouf from DWR, a table made with a RED tool box and a glass sheet on top and other corky finds.

“People don’t like blogs with a hidden agenda,” he said. “People want blogs to be honest.” - when this concerns design advice isn't it logical to look at the opinion of a professional designer, rather than at the on-line design stores that offer commentary. Of course they "are ginning up their own versions"!
It is the same as with the home furnishing stores that offer free design consulting and even projects - of course they will propose the client ONLY their own staff! I am curious - why people cannot understand that if they need unbiased advice they should not search for it at 'biased' sources.
The task of a professional designer is not to sell certain products - it is to give the client the best advice! I very much hope that more clients will have in mind this and will follow the advice in this "Room to Improve" New York Times article:
"The best way to stay informed — and to find help furnishing your home — may be to stay with unaffiliated design blogs."

Oh oh, the pic of the book shelf in the living room gave me a great idea (I didn't read the article, shame on me, so if this IS the case, sorry.) but wouldn't it be really amazing if the square bookshelf system were just a little bigger, and had four walls of shelving (with a small doorway, or walk in of some sort on one side) and you could choose a book from the OUTSIDE of the shelf system, as you see it in the picture, but there was a small room inside of the entire thing, that you could go inside to read your book. Maybe a chair, and a side table in there. Sort of like, the library shelves would be on the outside, instead of IN the room. Ok, does this make any sense, or am I just too excited about my idea? Which I could never achieve or afford, uh, ever. But I digress...
