Pictures! Lots of slideshows this week! From the theatrics of the Kips Bay Decorator Show House (a major portion of this edition) to the minimalist retreat in Easton, Pennsylvania.

- It's a decorators' show house in Kips Bay, Where Everything Glitters. Lots of interior photos (check out the slideshow). Some cool ideas and some strange experiments. Even more photos from the showhouse in the Personal Shopper.

- Stepfamilies Try to Stretch Their Space. Where stepparents, stepsiblings, half siblings and pseudosiblings all feel at home. Maxwell is quoted on page 2 (online).

- Remaking Home, One Stick of Furniture at a Time. Carl Martinez shares a weekend home with his parents and brother. Beautiful pictures of minimalist space in the slideshow.

- In the garden: Must Tulips Wither as the Climate Changes? Protecting plants from false, fickle spring.
- Room to Improve: What is the most versatile piece of furniture I can buy?

- Personal Shopper: Ideas from the Kips Bay Decorator Show House.

Can't wait to get to Kips Bay!
It's always interesting to see which has had more major work done... the rooms in the redone mansion, or the "socialites" who come to see it! ;)

Oh my... is that silver-leafed wall-paneling? I did a room where we silver-leafed the crown-moldings and in less than 6 months the moldings all tarnished. It was a very costly decorating mistake.

Christine - I was wondering that myself...but it really looks like...aluminum foil? They couldn't have? Would they?

They would.
.............................
Using a simple spray mount, Randall Beale and Carl Lana glued aluminum foil to the wainscoting along the staircase between the entrance foyer and the first floor. âOur inspiration was Andy Warholâs Silver Factory,â Mr. Beale said. âAfter all, isnât a show house about experimentation?â
He added: âThe foil nicks, but it acquires a patina, and it is easy to repair. If I was doing this in a real house I would coat the foil with clear polyurethane.â
