House & Home Roundup: 10.20.05

10-24-kmart.jpgThis H&H is another turning point issue in which the dirty issue of price, quality, high style and big-box stores BEGINS to be addressed:

Cheap: It's Chic, but Is It Good?

This is THE topic right now as people try to get their head around what quality is anymore and just why you should pay big money for anything. It is one of the issues that came up in our interview with Marta Calle (posted later today) and one we've written about in AT On A Low Carb Furniture Diet.

i visited target in brooklyn the same day h&h's story about big box quality and style came out. i wanted to see thomas o'brien's vintage modern collection. the collection looked so good in magazine editorials, but the furniture didn't look or feel as if it had the substance or quality level i'd buy. however the lighting is well made and great design, i bought my favorite an articulated task lamp.i wonder if the price point or the materials come first when these products are manufactured?
