House & Home Roundup: 5.4.06

5-4--hh-met.jpgWe hate to be a product whore, but that's what's best in H&H this week.

All the good decor this week belonged to Vogue's big party and Johnny Rotten at the MET on Monday night.

So let's cut right to Marianne's great outdoor light roundup and then go to Currents...

I want to be Marianne when I grow up. :)

But I would add Pottery Barn's Nickel Lanterns to that list:

I'm so in love with that hotel room and I'm not even a rococco type person. I went to the website for the hotel chain and it turns out that that bedroom is in the NY Palace Hotel here in Manhattan, not Budapest as the article would have you believe.

Wait a min. Maybe I'm wrong (it can happen!). Is that hotel room in NYC or Budapest? Um, I'm confused (it can happen!).

f understand the article, it's a hotel called "The New York Palace", located in Budapest.

"Home Alone Together" Wow, this is me! Can't wait to show it to my BF - who knew there were others like me out there!

Whoo-hoo! We're trendy! I *told* the husband that when he started commuting to work in another state -- so I only see him weekends, vacations, and a few other odd times -- that this was going to be the hot new thing in relationships before long.

Huge improvement -- our schedules and work habits get on each other's nerves in large amounts.

I always said that if I ever got married he'd have to live in his own place. And when I hear about people getting divorced because "he/she was always away" I think " yeah, what's the problem?" Who knew there were others out there who felt the same way. We even have a name. Go figure.

Wende and Anne -- The LAT relationship has been the ruin of many marriages among my family, friends and acquaintances. Be careful. It's not always good to find out how well you can do without one another. And temptations beckon. People sometimes behave out of character when it's just too easy to do so.

I hate swiffers. It's just more disposable stuff. More waste!

Bed, Bath & Beyond has the microfibre washable & reusable variety of these dry mops and dusters. Here in Canada, the same tools are marketed as 'Real Simple' brand - from the magazine.

Pat -- LAT isn't for everyone, but we got married at... oh... 31 and 39? Late enough that we knew we could get along without each other.

If the husband were going to cheat on me, it'd be with a gal who had a doctorate in medieval history with a secondary research interest in postmodern philosophy or Byzantine religion -- but fortunately, major universities never use the software that he's a guru in.

Pour moi, finding one of the six unattached, non-homeless heterosexual men of my generation in this city would be too much work for the potential payoff.

I liked the Eudora Welty article. How she didn't have air conditioning--except in the tv room, or "cool room" as her nieces called it--and preferred to write in the Mississippi heat.
