High Summer. Doesn't it feel as if, despite the mild heat, everything is slowing down....slinking towards some longed for coolness? That is what seems to be happening over at the OGL (Old Grey Lady), who, despite a silly Personal Shopper on doormats and the unfortunate news that Kathryn Gustafson's fountain for Diana has been closed due to injury, there are some noteworthy, summery items to pick through as well as some youthful signs of life. We give this week's H & H an 8.5 (scale of 1 to 10).
Total and complete eye candy is the new Intel surfboard that has a wireless computer mounted inside of it, allowing you to check your email while surfing, which makes absolutely no sense, but makes a good picture. Interesting here is how mobile computing is becoming, and what you should expect from computers in your own home. Making your home wireless is easy now.
In Trash Trades Up, we get the inside scoop on the current trend in more-expensive-stainless-steel-step-lid trash cans. Pioneered by Simplehuman, a 17 month old company based in Los Angeles, upscale kitchens are beginning to feel that it is trendy and not trashy to have a garbage can in view. While spending a lot of cash on a new trashcan is not necessary, some of these are not to pricey and we TOTALLY believe in having a good trash can in the kitchen. Plastic shopping bags hanging on a door knob just doesn't cut it.
Also interesting is the short review of Citizen: Citizen in Currents. Owned by Sweenu and Nicole Patel, this gallery and showroom offers ultra modern furniture that is easier to look at than use. Nevertheless, the vibrancy of new European design can be found in this small Williamsburg resource. We like stuff like this, because new good ideas can inspire you to try new things in your own home. I just wanted to mention how odd that "Grad's Eye for the Good Buy" article felt to me. Those guys (because they have to fly to LA to find any women? What was that?) are living on the Lower East side and the pictures of those rooms make them out to be pretty spacious. How are these "grads" supposed to be affording large apartments in the city? It just seemed to not be the most realistic representation of the reality of life after graduation; most of us don't have that kind of money for apartments in Manhattan and $600 sofa's (although that LA site they mentioned http://www.larrystjohn.com/ has some awesome sofas, the "loft" and "soho" models).
