House & Home Roundup: July 14, 2005

2005_15_nuvo.jpgWe have to admit to embarrassment in being totally sucked in by Mark Allen's lead article, I, Roomate, yesterday. With the demise of Gadgets, H & H gets the scoop on a very techy topic, but it is a beautifullly written piece which hits the nail on the head when Allen writes,

I came to understand that for all their purported helpfulness, home robots are largely about companionship.

We laughed out loud when the writer takes his robot, Nuvo, to bed and is woken up in the middle of the night when Nuvo activates out of the blue.

I, Roomate had subway riders guffawing all under the city.
Anyone else notice the writer outing himself, when he had to explain to his boyfriend his sleeping arrangement with the bot? So wonderfully casual, we really are post-gay when things go like that in the NYT.

I was inspired by Faulkner writing particular books to renovate the manse . . .

Yes, but sadly, the paper will no doubt recieve more than one letter of complaint. Don't kid yourself about how post-anything we actually are.
