Mmmmmm. Love the bright and airy feel. Very contemporary, yet warm and inviting. Lived in, but not cluttered. I particularly like the painting leaning on the console table in your living room - can you share any details? I enjoyed looking through the photos and discovering all the little details, like the wooden bird on the orange tray in the BR and the light fixture in the bath.

I'm sorry, but it's a white-walled yawn full of nondescript furniture and decor. The one saving grace is the majestic view.

The small vignettes are nice. I wish my place could be so clean and uncluttered. Hard to do when you share a space with someone else who is, shall we say... less tidy? Thank you for sharing!

Also hejiranyc, I'd love to see YOUR house on AT someday. Looking over your comments, you do realize that you have never said anything nice or constructive? I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but... wow. Just wow.

He seems to have decent taste and the ability to buy fairly nice things for such a young guy. I didn't see much here that was especially original or interesting apart from a few pieces of art. And the space seems very cold and office-like. But I think he and his apartment both have potential.

I like it - He cleverly makes it appear that his choices of whites, creams and beiges were based on a conscious preference rather than the landlord default to be fought against.

i like his use of beiges too and find it very soothing.

Does anyone know where to find a bookcase similar to the one in his bedroom? It's not so much a "bookcase" as it is a book tower. Any ideas where I can find it?

If this is a "mess" then lord help me! Clean and simple, but still fairly cozy feeling. However, booooo to Max for saying no to plant life. I think living plants really make a place feel more like home...and what else is he going to use that tiny watering can in th kitchen for?

This is a soothing palette and nice choose of bright color accents. The apartment appears to be warm for those cold days and cool for the hot and humid ones.

Also, nicely photographed.

However, since everything is so nicely styled it was missed on the art.. the art above the sofa and bed are hung too high.

Some people do make nothing but negative comments. They know it, and others recognize it sooner or later. Most people choose to ignore negative commenters, although one could report them to the moderator if they're particularly offensive.

Occasionally people amuse themselves by noisily inhabiting a snarky space far from civil yet not completely offensive, and thrive on the momentary attention they garner when they succeed in irritating other people with their remarks.

Completely unrelated topic, but interesting to note, the word hejira is similar to exodus: "a journey by a large group to escape from a hostile environment."

It's got too much of a 'big box/rental apartment/newness' feel for me. I want to see more old stuff for interest and texture.

I love the way the Malm consolue, ikat ottomans, coffee table and that wire side table work together. Can anyone remember where the side table is from? It has to be one of the catalogs... West Elm? CB2?

I have seen it before and have a fear of someone sitting on it. I think the description said it had a 40-pound weight limit??

PS - I agree the artwork is hung too high. Love the piece over the couch though.

This is *not* specific to this post, but more for all - any possibility of limiting the number of photos, say 15, 20ish? I've noticed that the slide shows get a little long and repetitive, with sometimes too many vignettes. Maybe take a lesson from texting, twittering, etc., and limit the number a bit so that the posters can focus a bit more? Just an idea.

Again, nothing against this post or home dweller.

The apartment looks like what it is: a very well executed first apartment. It looks calm and organized and not particularly fixated on any one current trend. I think its a very professional finish given that the resources were all mainstream, mass market retailers. I could certainly live there and be happy.

The only place where I think they should reexamine the plan is the bedroom. I tend to think of the bed as the main event in a bedroom as it is the biggest piece of furniture in the room. Here it comes off as a bit of an afterthought, both in style and execution. Maybe a layered approach to the textiles using those creams, beiges, and whites would kick it up a notch. Right now, its executed like a dorm room bed.

But all in all, great job!

I like what I see. Simple, clean, fresh and organized. How can I find someone to help me? Called FIT told you just cant seek help from a student. I'm suffering through the recession have some furniture cant figure out what to do with it. You think maybe your friend woudl like to help me "ACCESSORY SHY"

I like it. Its very relaxing...a place I want to escape to after fighting all the people on the streets of New York.

Habitual negativity is getting old on this site. Differing ideas is one thing, but some people just have nothing better to do than be rude.

i think it looks great! the neutrals are very calming, its light and bright with lots of texture!

asinner- i'm pretty sure that is the "link side table" from cb2, and is no longer available :( i loved it too!

I love it. My old place was decorated very similar. I find a lot of neutrals and an almost hotel like simplicity helps my creativity. I get too distracted to finish projects when there's a lot of visual stuff around.

I feel I should defend hejiranyc. You don't need to have had your home featured here to make a comment. It's an open forum, albeit somewhat moderated.

If people don't like the comments they shouldn't post the pics, although I haven't seen Pierre complaining.

And before you ask, my house has been featured on AT. Again, not that it matters.

I like the clean feel of this space and would feel very comfortable there. I think a calm, neutral space allows one to relax and to focus on whatever task is at hand.

I agree with what pretty much everyone said--clean and airy yet a too bland for my tastes...and also, I find the living room to be really feminine (not that there's anything wrong with that)--I just never would have guessed a man lived there...

Nice, clean and airy, but I have to admit, that I wasn't "wowed" by it. Incredible view though.

thanx for all the positive comments … here are the answers to the questions asked (I believe I covered them all)

* The paintings on the walls are from a young french artist - here is her website http://www.carolinebocquet.com/ - she might actually have few of her paintings in a gallary in manhattan (137 grant st - cant remember the name). The painting on the console is actually from a friend of mine.
* The bookcase in the bedroom is from westelm (its in wood - cb2 have one in metal but I don’t like it)
* The pillows are from a small store in Chelsea "Les Toiles du Soleil" 8x19 (the kitchen clothes are from there as well)
* the wired side table is from cb2 - yes its really fragile and of course I already had people trying to seat on it during parties …
* the coffee table and the ottoman are from west elm

* to LoriSF - you are so right - I love the fresh feeling in the middle of summer days when the shades are down - and in the evening the shades of the lamps create a very warm atmosphere, light up few cancles and its perfect.
* for the paintings I know I need to lower them… just have been lazy ;-)

One "complaint" I have - but I have it often: the sofa is a bit bland for such a young guy. I think a sofa should make a kind of statement, either in shape or color. But maybe that's only me. I'd also probably remove one of the bar stools, three seem a bit crowded?

But overall I like what I see and could easily live in this lovely and sunny apartment. Nice use of texture (sisal rug and "see through" ottoman). And as someone who loves red and orange: the trays are gorgeous.

MrCranky, I don't think one's home has to "appear" before you can comment. Not at all. Comments and differing opinions are great, but all negative, all the time? That doesn't help anyone. This website is great because people DO share and DO ask for feedback, but if the one only receives nasty, what are the chances others will share in the future? I've been reading this site since its inception and I've noticed a strong trend toward criticism (and not of the constructive kind) and negativity. I feel it brings the site down... and I just had seen it too often yesterday to let it go. Maybe I should have just kept on clicking and kept my mouth/keyboard shut.

I love the living room and disagree with the poster suggesting a sofa with more of a statement. I lived in NYC for 13 years and this living room is so soothing. His view is all the statement that place needs. This is such a lovely retreat from the outside crazines.

I love how he has the white parsons desk there in the LR perpendicular to the wall creating its own work space (which otherwise would be a non-space), and with a view but easy to get in or out from behind it. And working at the desk gives the spectacular view of the outside, but also inside the room. I have only been envisioning the desk parallel with the wall so with either only a view of outside, or with the window to my back.

Thanks for giving me a new perspective! I'm totally doing this.

Very nice and easy on the eyes. A great first-time-out-on-his own-apartment - The neutral palette leaves Pierre plenty of space to explore new ideas and to grow his style over time.

I never did find his "mess"! The clock in the bathroom gave me a chuckle. On our first visit with friends in Berlin, we adopted their habit of hanging a clock over every exit door of every room. So, of course, I noticed his clock and the precision of his "clutter".

I would love to know where the console table is from (with the 3 ottomans underneath). Can anyone tell me?? This is such a great idea for a small new york apartment! As per the comment below-- the bookshelves are from Ikea.

I recently started following this site daily, and I think I've already had my fill of the commentary. I thought the idea of viewing other people's homes was to possibly find inspiration or appreciate a new way of looking at things and how others live. All I see are a bunch of wannabe critics/designers painfully picking apart someone elses design sense. If it's not for you, move on. Open forum or not, nobody cares about your nasty critique but you.

Great apartment. Like one poster said, the view (& sunlight) provide all the 'warmth' the place needs. Sure some vintage pieces may warm it up a bit, but this place has a great vibe. Love the two Jacobsen chairs, and the wood coffee tables provide a warm contrast to the plastic pieces. I would love to spend a weekend there (although I'd have to bring a Mac).

I can't say that there's anything that really wows me about this place, but I'll give it to the owner - somehow you pack a lot in but it doesn't feel cluttered. Now that's a talent!

I have a NYC friend who has exactly the same apt floor plan and he could certainly use a face lift such as this. Yes, there are things that could be a tad better: the art work is "hung" a little eratically and the lamp next to the couch could be lower. I also think the bedroom is a tad cold. Otherwise, I think the concept is brilliant. Nice to see a guy with such an attractive and neat dwelling.

Regarding the Sofa - it was actaully one of the most difficult piece for me to pick - I definitely did not want to make a statement with it, with a bigger or darker one; I just don’t think my living room is big enough for that …

On the mess… you don’t see it because I have a lot of storage, the ottoman in the living room are for instance are storage boxes … which allows me to tied up my living room in less than 5 minutes.

Pierre, I agree with another blogger who suggested your apartment should have a calming effect and an antidote to the constant and unavoidable onslaught of energy living and working in the city. I hope it continues to evolve and that the experience of your own new home proves rewarding. Forget "statements" and making an impression. The important thing is that you love living in the space.
