apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Allison & Mike's Contemporary Townhouse
House Call

Name: Allison & Mike
Location: Hillsborough, New Jersey (about an hour from Manhattan)

My husband and I live in a 1980's contemporary townhouse — approximately 1,300 square feet. When we moved in, EVERYTHING was white. I wanted a cozy yet modern vibe and did that mostly with paint and furniture. We have a unique layout and an asymmetrical living room.

We also have a lot of sliders and only 2 windows. I did a lot of DIY projects — I won the February Jumpstart contest with my starburst mirror — although we haven't done any real renovations. I think my DIY projects and thrifty solutions could be inspirational to others looking to make big improvements on a small budget. We also have a really cute (and photogenic) dog, which I know is a bonus!

Thanks, Allison & Mike!

We've had amazing response to our Apartment Therapy House Tour Submission Form. While we will work with homeowners of our favorite homes to feature full tours, we will also share the best as House Calls — short, quick tours of readers' homes. Submit your home here.

Sorry, the house looks pretty generic, but that pup is AMAZINGLY adorable.

This house tour doesn't knock my socks off, but it does seem like a very comfy, inviting place that I wouldn't mind living in.

I agree - the pup is adorable and the use of color in the rooms is to be commended...

...but there's a certain ennui that washes over me whenever I glance at the photos of someone's home and can easily determine which mainstream retailer was the source of nearly every major object.

Love the home. Even if some of the items are easily identifiable, the apartment as a whole is lovely. Several DIY elements add a personal touch.

And, yes, the pup is adorable.

I like the chartreuse green color on the wall. Can you please tell the manufacturer and the name of the color? Thanks

Love the green behind the desk! Please divulge the color and maker.

I also have asymetrical space and loooots of books in Bily bookcases, and for that reason I really appreciate what you did with the loft space -- that the books are all in one place, that its well-organized and aesthetically pleasing, that there's warm and cozy mood that fits with the rest of the house, and that you were thrifty here to (presumably) spend elsewhere.

I do find it a little frustrating that you mention DIYs yet we can't really see any in this set of jpegs.

And he is a cutey.
