Name: Dante
Home then: 500 sqft. studio East Soho/North Chinatown (check out her home)
Home now: new art, new furniture, new rug in the same studio
This week we check in on Dante, one of our all time favorite house tours and a highlight in our latest book, Apartment Therapy Presents: Real Homes, Real People, Hundreds of Design Solutions
. Since we last visited Dante, she has managed to take a DIY break to make her home even cuter than it already was!

The silhouettes are actually home-made by Dante. She found a silhouette from her youth, scanned it, enlarged it, traced it on black paper and then framed the cut-out. She thought it would be funny to pair it with another silhouette of her dog, created via a similar process. For the pet silhouette, however, she started with a photograph rather than a drawing. According to Dante, "it's a cheap and easy process, with great results--a lot of bang for your buck." This past Christmas, Dante made a number of silhouettes as gifts for her friend's children.
In terms of additions, Dante moved in extremes. She put up some striking art above her strikingly pink furniture and then acquired a nuetral woven rug for her kitchen to soften the space. The cumulative impact is only good!

I really like the rug to balance some of your stronger colors with a more organic feel. I've been trying to find plants to emulate your "taste of the hamptons" window boxes. Can you tell me where you got them/what type of plant they are? Thanks!

Thanks for your kind comments!
The plants in the window boxes are 'Box Hedges'.
You can buy these in the plant district on 28th street (or is it 27th?) between 6/7th Avenues.
