AT Book Alert: Update on Jenny and Clove

interior.JPG

Name: Jenny and Clove

Home then: 500 sqft. studio near Astor Place (check out their original apartment)

Home now: updated bathroom, new murphy bed, new firepit, new art, new furniture in same studio

ATrealpeoplebook.JPGThis week we check in on Jenny and Clove, two of the most thorough and inspired people I have come across while criss-crossing the interiors landscape. Not only did they totally transform their basement studio from a dark, 50-years-worth-of-smoke-covered-walls space into a gorgeous garden lounge, but since we shot their apartment for our latest book, Apartment Therapy Presents: Real Homes, Real People, Hundreds of Design Solutions, they have taken on a second phase of upgrades.

In the furniture department, they bought two new chairs for the main space. They are "1970's De Sede (Switzerland) modernist leather cantilevered loungers & were purchased on the cheap from Ebay."

This is Jenny and Clove's new piece of art for the big, formerly empty space above the couch. It's a 1992 silkscreen on canvas by Christopher Makos titled "Paradise." Jenny let me know that "Makos is an American photographer who apprenticed with Man Ray and worked closely in collaboration with Warhol."

The backyard is still a "work-in-progress." Jenny and Clove installed a new snap together deck in the patio area off the door & had new bluestone pavers installed in the garden area. All the plants are bamboo & the planters boxes are teak. The furnishings (except for the gray DWR stools, the Crate & Barrel big sur table & pale green air chairs) are all Craigslist finds. In the next week, they will rev up their new weber grill & fire pit.

Stay tuned for the finale--when everything is in its place, and Jenny and Clove's apartment sings!!

everytime i see tours like this i think... why can't i make my space look like this... and i forget to notice the much higher ceilings.
This is lovely and inspirational to me in my basement unit patio.

I have no idea how to raise my ceiling though ;)

i was totally impressed with the first tour and the way they transformed their space. just painting a wall 2 or 3 times pushes me to the edge, let alone 12 coats of primer!!

great job with inside and outside space!! it's really beautiful!!

My apartment overlooks theirs from across the courtyard. I loved watching the garden take shape. Beautiful work!
