Maxwell and Sara Kate are the first on our list. They've moved from their unbelievably efficient, beautiful and tiny apartment since the book was photographed, but they have used the wisdom of small living to make the best use of their new space.

The kitchen is about twice the size of that in their old apartment. To keep things organized, they've introduced a heavy-duty potrack below the kitchen's skylight.

According to Maxwell, "I installed this one evening using ceiling hooks that take four screws in each plate (it's real sturdy). It's been great for storage and also to separate the kitchen from the dining area a bit more. It feels cozier now."

Max and Sara Kate bought their steel and wood potrack from Overstock.com for about $70.

It's funny how your own interests and tastes change. I used to fantasize about having a pot rack in my kitchen, but now I'm no longer a fan ... just too much visual clutter above my head and a big collector of dust! I guess in a tiny kitchen here, though, it gives you room to store everything.

That looks like a well equipped kitchen!

Of course, I loved your old kitchen. But kitchen design varies according to the space.

Here, you have so much room (and light) to move around and to really get your hands dirty.

I like the pot rack but offer one tip. After washing pots, make sure to wipe them completely dry. Because of the angle that the pots hang, a small amount of water may remain in the bottom of the pot as it hangs.

Looking forward to the new read!

You say "below the kitchen's skylight", so I find myself wondering if that means that the skylight is obscured. I may never know, since the second photo doesn't show the skylight at all.

I know you are big cooks and all, but you all have probably three or four times the number of pots and pans as I do, and I cook all the time! I have few enough that they are all stored neatly in one under counter cabinet. No visual clutter at all.

Maxwell,
I am a big fan from your work on Mission Organization. I recently read your book Apartment Therapy and now I am excited to read your new book. Your outlook on life is refreshing. It is perfect thinking for this crazy and complicated world in which we live. I also noticed that Ina Garten mentioned your wife's name. So I googled Sara's name and I am anxiously waiting to read her cookbook. I will be very excited to see if her philosophy of cooking meshes with your philosophy of home decor and design. Well, I will just have to see. Regards, Mary F
