apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

AT Europe: Florence - Valeria & Alberto's High-Ceilinged Two-Bedroom

va1.jpg

Leonardo da Vinci once slept in the former monastery where sister and brother Valeria and Alberto bought an apartment together seven years ago, on a beautiful, sleepy square in Florence, Italy...

They hired an architect to help them maximize their soaring ceilings, installing climbing vertical bookcases in the study and modernizing the stairs to the upstairs loft. The flat is equipped with two large, extremely long bathrooms, one on top of the other over two floors, so each sibling has ample private space. They installed Japanese sliding doors to the bedrooms, and they use what's left of their generous wall space to host visiting at-home art exhibitions -- a painter friend lent them the art that's currently on the walls.

Beautiful...but it's a little bit of a cheap trick to throw Piazza della Signoria in at the end...

Not only Piazza della Signoria but also my personal favorite Piazza della Santissima Annunziata. Though I'm not sure how they relate to the apartment being that they're about 1km apart.

So beautiful! I love the wrapping book shelves It must overlook Piazza della Santissima Annunziata! (Both the first and last photos are from that piazza!) I want to live there, I'm so jealous.

I, too, would like to know about the lamp over the desk.

It's a living space with all their books and needs met but no fussy clutter. It's very appealing.

Not that impressed. book shelves could use straightening, no eye raising painted wall. Location, location, location.

Unimpressed. Does an apartment automatically get a post if located in Italy?
