apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

AT Europe: Paris - Chez Nathalie & Keith

nat-13.jpg

Nathalie is a sculptor whose work has a prominent place in the airy, spacious converted warehouse where she lives with her husband Keith and young daughter Emma...

nat-4.jpg

Pieces like Nathalie's giant working light switches are scattered throughout the 230m2 apartment in the 11th arrondissement that covers the ground and basement floors of a converted factory that was an abandoned shambles when they bought it. It's still a work in progress, though all of the major structural work has been completed.

Shots of bold color throughout the largely white space -- red carpet in the living room, bright green paint for the roof in the central courtyard that is visible outside their kitchen and living room windows -- give their sleek aesthetic a shot in the arm.

The minimalist, industrial kitchen is warmed up by an old Oriental rug and a massive stone table from the flea market at St. Ouen in the adjoining dining room is made of pierre de Bourgogne, and surrounded by vintage Gio Ponti chairs.

looks like showroom or a Thomas Demand photoshoot, rather than a home.

I found this set of photos very frustrating. So much potential has gone untapped, it seems. Maybe it's just me.

I love the last pic of the picture/puzzle....how on earth did you make something of the sort? It looks rather large and made of wood!!

I love the dining/kitchen area's balance of minimalism mixed with some eye-catching pieces and that beautiful floor.

I love the desk. Talk about uncluttered! Actually it might just be a sculpture? Probably just to land for a second with a laptop? I like it.

And the white back-painted glass that's framed in a white frame? It's kind of like a mirror, but kind of a twist on it? Nice.

Love the bookshelves and the puzzle pic. Hope we get to see more of this "work in progress".

seems very sterile

Love it -- I don't find it sterile at all. Like Kristen says, it is a work in progress, but I like what choices they have made so far. Love the shots of colour (I am actually liking the wall-to-wall in the living room; can't believe I am saying that!), the kitchen and the rug, as well as the dining area. Interesting texture and depth take time, they do not happen overnight, or even over the course of a year. It is definitely a space a I can see myself in.

The bedroom looks like a dream in progress. All you have to do is get on the bed, close your eyes and join the fun. I really, really like it.

The bedroom is lacking. It needs something -- a headboard, a splash of color.

Really liked the bookshelf under the stairs and the huge light switch. Thought the white frame of white on the wall was really intriguing. All in all, I think this home has an interesting mix of modern and not-so-modern.

That's some gorgeous art in there. What a fun, beautiful and original home.
