Name: Priscilla
Location: Valencia, Spain
I feel very proud of my apartment because it was completely empty when I rented it 2 years ago. I did not want to spend much money so I made myself many things like recycled furniture, lamps, pictures and used some objects for an unusual function — each thing has a different history and that´s exactly what I like. When I feel low of energy I completely change the set of all furniture so my friends always find a surprise. It is fun to try find the perfect balance of colors, styles and objects...
My place — especially the lounge in loft-style — is really influenced by Moroccan and Indian styles and also by natural and colorful things found in the forest, on the beach, in flea markets or bought around the world in my work travels. I also like the traditional rustic-Spanish style, found in some little details, especially the terrace.
Since the original main space is really open and rectangular, I found many difficulties for separating kitchen, eating and relaxing areas in order to avoid the wide-corridor sensation. It was also a challenge to set the furniture in a way that does not make the space narrow.
The flat has 2 more rooms, a studio (after the crystal door you can see on photos) and 2 bathrooms, in total 120 square meters.
For the main bedroom I tried to get the most relaxing atmosphere I could, using natural colors and textures. The bed heading is made of the rest of the garden fence that I did not used for covering the terrace wall, for example. The chest was found on the rubbish as a traditional pine wood chest, without handlers; also the golden lamp was an old grandmother lamp found on the street, the bead string hanging to switch-on is part of a collar I broke accidentally...You can see everything is plenty of imagination and creativity to fix and give another chance to every object I like...
The only thing I do not like is that my landlord does not allow me to paint the walls in colors...but this forced me to give the atmosphere focusing in other aspects.
I hope you like my flat!
Thanks, Priscilla!

very pretty pad :)

It's rather cute - but I often wonder why people put impossible-to-reach tall dressers next to their beds rather than a low chest, nightstand or table that is easily usable from bed?

I like your bass. I make sure to uncase mine as soon as I get home. Its too pretty to be cased up, and I find I practise more if its uncased.....sometimes :)

@Chrisgal: I don't see more than a handful of IKEA pieces. Also, so what?
The place is cute and attainable. I would like to see a more fitted covers on the sofas, but otherwise like the mix of colors and patterns.

Love the bedroom, nice mixture of the natural shabby chic. I'd be very guilty of sleeping late if my bedroom looked this comfy.

not too bad but i hate when people put a sheet on their sofa, makes it look quite bad!

I think the bedroom is my favourite space too! The colour of the rest of the apartment is great and really shows a lot of personality.

they make these plastic corkscrew things for making a sheet fit better over furniture

Thanks a lot for the comments!! :)
I´ve seen the sofa sheet is an issue for most of you, let me explain the main difference between my flat and others that I see here is that mine is done with almost no budget, it is a rented flat and I gave the best of my imagination to make it look like my own home trying to spend as little as I could. The sofas below the sheets are horrible grey-greenish colour that my mom gave me...That´s also the reason I have some Ikea (not too much, come on!) things, and the reason of recycling so much furniture. Money is not neccesary to make it look nice and homely...
-If you have a better solution for sofas tell me, please :)

priss- you did a great job and you don't need to explain anything. You have a lovely home.

Any woman with a bass fiddle---that looks like she actually plays it---is just too cool for words, as far as I'm concerned. I bet there are some great parties in that place!!

Fun! My friends would be surprised by a cello in the bed too!

I like the loose-fitting sheets on the sofas! Ethnic-eclectic... very relaxed Moroccan. No one would say a word if they saw like images in high-end decor magazines! (;

i don't see too much ikea either, and priss, i totally understand covering a less-than-cute sofa with a sheet. i've done that myself in the past.
love your place!

Priss, your place is so cozy and welcoming -- thank you for sharing! I especially like photo #2 because it shows your excellent color sense. All those vibrantly red & purple textiles work beautifully together; your Moroccan & Indian inspirations are very clear. And your creative headboard idea (the garden fencing!) looks great.

If you did this with a rental on a super-tight budget, then I can't imagine what you'll do once your have more freedom and cash, Priscilla! You have real style and a flair with color!

Love your place! I was wondering, did you make the grassy headboard in the bedroom yourself or did you purchase that? Please do tell how I could come up with something similar! thank you.

Your bedroom is divine.

Hi Gwylan, I´m glad you liked my headboard.
It is actually a garden fence cover, they are usually made of bamboo reeds but this one is of thin sticks. I paid like 20 Euros for 4 meters long which is very affordable, the piece of the headborad is actually the remaining bit after covering the balcony banister, I just had to cut the lenght, the height was perfect.
I´m sure you can easily find it in a Garden Centre, and they will have tons of models for you to choose. Good luck!
Thanks again to everyone for the warm nice comments :)

In answer to what to do with the sofa, maybe using two sheets. Tuck the first one in without the cushions on top (maybe a few staples in the back and at the bottom to make it fit a little tighter), then add the cushions and tuck a sheet around them. Your eclectic style would even allow for two different colored sheets. I like the look. When renting, why spend a lot of cash if you don't have to. I just furnished my daughter's first Apt. from Ikea. Not all of us can afford Design Within Reach (not in reach for many, especially in this economy)!

Hi Khadija,
I made it myself, its a piece of IKEA super-cheap fabric tensed into and old wood frame I found.

What a warm and inviting home. This is the kind of place I love to see featured on AT. Very real and very charming. Priscilla's obviously put considerable thought and effort into making her home a comfortable and appealing place to live (which, by the way, doesn't require a big fat wallet--remember?).
Brava!
Oh, and "Eames much?" Genius, dear Offtza, pure genius.

I love love love the colors. Great Job! I think this looks better then some i have seen with an endless budget, It shows personality. I just moved and i am redecorating everything and in the end i hope to end up with something just as nice.

I love your place, Priscilla! It is very bold & Boho, and I love when people are not afraid to show off their style in their homes. The bedroom is my favorite because I just love cozy shabby chic bedrooms. I think your living/dining area is charming and homey. Do not let others tell you to get rid of the sheet on the sofa! Do what you want in your own home. :)
