Jorge's Big House in a Small Frame
House Call

Name: Jorge Rosso
Location: Coral Gables neighborhood of Miami, Florida

The concept of this house is cheap finds for an expensive look. I am an obsessive hunter for bargains on great stuff, and while it takes a while to put together, the journey is better!

The style here is eclectic and interesting, we're packing a big house into a 1,500 square foot frame, and entertaining bigger groups than you would think — just treat storage like on a boat! When I found the house, it was a disaster, but it had great bones. The challenge was to update it for my taste and lifestyle, as well as to respect her age!

Thanks, Jorge!

Yay, Miami! I love the kitchen and can see that you are on your way to realizing your vision. I just think the bedroom is screaming for a nice, rich wall color to make it more cozy and tie it all together.

I live in a really similar a home in Florida and it is refreshing to see more (older) Florida style homes. You have managed to keep alot of the original feel with adding yourself and updates! I think you have even managed to incorporate Florida without going wrong with tacky pastel prints. It's lovely.

So stylish but yet warm, inviting and fun. I feel like I wish I knew you...and what an interesting collection of accessories. You have some really nice interior views into the other rooms. I'm so curious about the kitchen. I'm guessing the yellow tile is original, but how beautifully the gray and blue paint updates the room, and integrates the tile for a beautiful effect.

It is so refreshing to see a home in FL that has not followed the awful, heavy Spanish/Gaudy Grecian decorating curse and instead has created a very warm inviting place. Nice.

I love how you toned down the quirky features of the home (the bulkhead and overhead fan in the kitchen and the lowered ceiling in the family room area). I have toured some homes in this area and they tend to be decorated in the over the top fashion. This home is light and airy and looks like a great place to hang out.

I wasn't feeling it until I got to picture 4. Beautiful. I want to curl up with a book on that fat-armed sofa.

Thanks All,

For the kind comments and words. You are all invited to Miami for a glass of wine on me!

And Kpaige, the rugs in the Kitchen were bought by my parents in Santa Fe when I was a little kid, but I picked up a similar stripey rug at IKEA.

That dining room works it! I was startled by the green but then I caught the Monet-like artwork... super interesting home.

Oh my gosh! Great house and I love the art and combinations. Did you paint the dining room chairs green?
That dining room is to die for, it looks like you could just fall into that painting. The candelabra on the table is the perfect touch.

Please, please tell us what paint color you used for the dining room chairs!! Or are they original? I love them! And have dining room chairs waiting!!
Also, I love your top kitchen cabinets!! I was looking for something like this. But the only ones I could find were large on the bottom and small on the top in a 1800's house!!
Are they original?? If not could you please tell me where they are from. Thanks, you home is bright, light and full of color!! Beautiful!

Jorge is not only a cutie but sweet.

BTW Coral Gables is not a "neighborhood of Miami". It is its own city in Miami-Dade County.
