I love how much they've done without having unnecessary furniture just to fill the space, the size of their pieces relative to the size of the rooms is just lovely!

Spot on Paris Apt. The Louis Phillipe mirrors are ubiquitous in Paris but so hard to come by (reasonably $) here! I've been analyzing why I love Paris style and you've captured the sophisticated charm.

There's a rumor in Paris, about rents getting higher and higher because of rich Americans buying or renting appartment we need but can't afford. Here's one exemple; but I'm so amazed to see what you did with it, I don't care about that rumor !!

After living for five years in downtown Paris, I still don't understand why it's supposed to be such a great romantic city to live in (traffic jams, noises, bad plumbing, hugh rent and around an hour to get to work isn't romantic to me !), but I hope you have a lot of Parisian friends who'll come visit. Please, show them how lovely and tasty a home can be. I'm ashamed to see that the most beautiful appartment I know of in Paris is owned by an American. We surely need to take some styling lessons...

Paris, like San Francisco, has its own special energy and atmosphere that somehow outlives nearly all the usual memories of the horrible things about city life.
Your apartment beautifully captures the spirit of the city and regarless of anyone's nationality, be proud and enjoy entertaining!

HUGE QUESTION: how do you clean sisal carpets? I've had sisal rugs in the past and I find it extremely difficult to get particles out- even with a vacuum.

This is proof that sometimes SIMPLE can be BREATHTAKING.

I especially love the dresser and turquoise lamp shade.

Madelyn, my hero - this is a masterpiece. I am in an apartment and researching to build a darling fireplace (though mine will be faux) of my own. I am so happy for you that you have one... or - dang! - two!

Also, I love that you've layered cream over cream and white over white and all the layers just lend themselves to a delectable place of serenity.

i know this will sounds very mean-spirited but i think it's oppressively girly... in a kind of "shabby chic" way. it doesn't look really antique and it looks all sort of overly upholstered.

i can't see the exterior of the Parisian building, but assuming it's one of the classic Haussmanian buildings we associate with Paris, the 19th c. architectural details will be sufficiently beautiful offset by some austerity. All the doo-dads and tchotchkes cover it all up.

This could be Indianapolis or Des Moines or NYC or Shanghai. It looks like faux-Baroque a la shabby chic.
