apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Max's Eclectic Salon Style
House Call

Name: Max NYC
Location: Gramercy, New York City

My place is a 1 bedroom rental apartment located in Gramercy. I've been here for about 9 months. The apartment has great natural light, South/West exposure, high ceilings, hardwood floors and a lot of charms. Though the living room is quite large for NYC standard — the rest is.... NYC standard!

My style is a mix of traditional, clean modern, classics and vintage pieces combined from flea market to antiques, from the US and Europe. A great influence from my professional background as an architect/interior designer and my personal background as French born. I am trying to reflect both in my place.

Thanks Max NYC!

I love your cozy bedroom and I love the muted colours throughout. I'm not sure I understand the furniture arrangement in the livingroom though...

i love it. it's very tasteful, but not boring, stylish but not sterile. there's a kind of spontaneity and warmth and it makes me curious about the person who lives there.

seems to be filled with usable and/or beautiful things.

Fantastique. I'd love to see what an overscale mirror would look like where the Menonite star is currently. Very tasteful.

One of my favorite house calls. I love the furniture arrangement in the living room, because it's haphazard, and very European feeling. So disorderly! I definitely fall into the trap of placing furniture in obvious ways sometimes. The bedroom is tiny, like mine, but I envy your windows because it makes the room feel way more airy. Good job.

This is the kind of space I'd live in if I didn't have a husband, two sons, and a big smelly dog. Thanks for letting me live vicariously for a few moments. :)

Very nice, seems relaxing and easy to fall into "comfy" mode once you get home.. I can dig ;)

I am super curious about the kitchen tho...

The Futon is made by Innovation dk.

Their stuff is pretty good. All their casual convertibles have pocket coils and steel frames. The price range for casual convertibles go from 500 to 1200.

I really like the colors and layout of the bedroom. It gives such a lazy day snuggle in feeling. I would love to hear the renter's thoughts on the living room arrangement. I don't understand it but i want to.

It's an accomplished blend of old and new, marvellously restrained, and I especially like that antique oval desk.

However I just itch to straighten the daybed, the cowhide rug and the chair :)

Very well done. The only tweak I'd make is adding color the the bay window walls. Maybe a rich but muted gold or yellow only in that nook, to pick up on all the tones of your gorgeous floors and wood pieces.

You have a very light touch, and know when to stop. This is a unique talent.

The oval desk is wonderful. Where did you get the corner dresser in the bedroom? I absolutely love that piece! Your apartment is very soothing and well done. Not sure that I would have thought to put the same pieces together, but the result is amazing. Job well done!

Thanks! The corner piece from the bedroom comes from The Conran Shop on 59th and 1St Avenue.

This is fantastic. The consistent colour palette allows a great mix of modern and vintage. That Chinese ceramic stool is perfect texture to offset the whole space.

i am so taken with this! (and try to refrain form comments like this but what a mix of sweet, sophisticated, subtle, rich, a touch of extravagance, warmth...).

KatherineD: the antique Pine table in front of the bay window comes from a Thrift shop - Housing works in Chelsea. They always have great pieces, just have to check often!!
