Renovated Family Home in Buenos Aires
House Call

Name: Marcela
Location: Buenos Aires, Argentina

Hello! my name is Marcela and I'm an interior designer. Together with my husband Peter and my two sons Thomas and Philip we moved into this house in Buenos Aires, Argentina a year ago. We looked for houses with that were spacious, had a patio, and an older, antique style.

The house met all the conditions, and we bought it to begin renovations. It was built in 1943 and the style is very characteristic of that time in the city of Buenos Aires. We've tried to keep the original details as often as possible and take advantage of the natural light — we've incorporated new openings, an inner courtyard, skylights, etc.

We've also reorganized the movement and flow between rooms to enhance the functionality and made a focus on decorative details. We really like the antique furniture of different styles, the color is present in the walls or objects. The decorative details are important to me at the time of decorating: a beautiful fabric, a vintage furniture, a lamp, a vase. We got what we wanted — a house for maximum enjoyment with our family! I hope you like it, much as we do.

Thanks, Marcela!

Hi Marcela, what a great job! I love it, as I love those mid XX century houses, typical in Buenos Aires. I was born in Buenos Aires, now I live en Madrid and miss my city a lot. When I saw the pictures and recognize the resemblance of the familiar light and style I traced back in my memories and visit my own neighborhood. I am re-thinking my return to Argentina and settle down once an for all in my place. I still have my house in BA and have many recycling ideas boiling in my head. Also love that white "aparador".Congratulations! It would have been very interesting to see some pics from the house front and to know in which nwighborhood the house is placed. I invite you (and all of you) to visit my other place in Internet: http://dailyproof.net/ Greetings from Madrid.

Hi Marcela, so nice to see something from BA in AT. I'm living in BA as well and I always love it when they publish homes from Uruguay or from here. It makes it feel more real. No IKEA around nor etsy stuff makes me feel like I live at the end of the world, when actually we have stuff that is unique to our culture.
I remodelled my apartment as well. It was a 70sqm office that looked hideous when I bought it, but with love and taste it now looks gorgeous. I'm waiting for summer time and sun to come streaming in through the windows to take some pictures and sending them to AT.
Love you corner wooden plate holder... where dod you find that???

I´m so glad to see a BA house here! My hometown has so many wonderful places, and what Romy said is true... we do our apartments therapies with no IKEA, no etsy, no craiglist, no garage sales... no credit... and yes, we have flea markets but they are too expensive and trendy. A whole different world, yet it´s a great place...

Me gusta los colores que usaste. Vivo en Buenos Aires tambien, y lo que noto es que todo parece igual, que hay este estilo Louis Algo (no se el nombre del estilo, pero muy pesado y formal) o moderno pero muy "boxy". You give us another look apart from the normal cookie-cutter interior design crap I see in the magazines here.

Some choices aren't to my liking, but as a whole it works, and it's still a pleasant surroundings in which I'd feel comfortable.

I do, however, absolutely love the bedroom! Not always does one need a lot of patterns, but simple, single-coloured fabrics blended as in there is stunning!

(Why do air conditioners and radiators generally have to be so ugly though???)

That is so beautidul! I have been to Argentina last year and finding an apartment is a difficult task. I was looking apartments in Palermo Buenos Aires because I had been told that it was one of the safest places.
I had a great time and I hope I can come back.
Cheers
