You've inspired me.
I am going to do the same in my kitchen!
All the details in the kitchen are orange (rug, hanging plates, dish towels, etc) excpet for the paint.
I didn't want to paint all one tone but this post gave me a great idea on how to go about it....thanks!

well despite the first 'comment' I think the wall looks great- I worked as a faux finisher for a few years( too many) and I'm honestly happy to see it sort of make a comeback-but in a more creative graphic way-no more sponging please!!!I would usually say leave it to the pros but I like what you've achieved,it helps that you kept within the same color using different shades of...mixing colors on a awall can get messy unless you know what your doing-and even then it aint always pretty!!!- I would paint the little 'header' over the door maybe the second lightest color so it blends more into the overall wall-the white and the d orange are your strongest colors therefore contrast the most with the wall overall.

or is that a light fixt over the door, I can't tell...

I love it. I love the color and design. I'm glad you made it your own! My hubby and I painted our foyer a pear color this morning and although our neighbors thought we were odd for doing it we now LOVE our GREEN room. It's a mood changer, that is for sure! And so is that fabulous wall!

Creative yes-I like the pattern. I'll give you that. The color's ok. The floors are aweful. Red? Yuk! Overload for a minimalist like me. I mean I am just so confused trying to figure out what your inspiration was. Good luck taking that off! Yikes..

Those walls with a dark jacobean stain, walnut or just ebony colored would be more contemporary and just more mature.

I just love projects that derive from conversation over dinner and wine. I can imagine the fun you had--and I think the results are great. You'd better send another picture when you've put the translucent white over it, too.

I love painted floors. On Cape Cod we had pale gray ones painted about a million years before we bought the house. A friend's farm house up on the Hudson in Red Hook has bedroom floors painted in flat yellow ochre. The only painted floor I didn't like was the one I painted shiny black--well, the effect was terrific, but in the sunlight, the dust motes and dog hairs gleamed like stars and comets. . . . But love your red (the little I can see), and the wall's great with it. Happy room!

I'm always so amazed by people's very emotional reactions to color; when the terms love and hate are used so vehemenantly over something so transient- color can change so dramatically with lighting,and even in contrast to another color-even the act of taking a photo of a color alters it to the viewer-also each individual sees color differently; we are all 'color blind' to some degree or another ...
and beside that,it's just paint-it doesn't cost a fortune and it can change as quickly and easily as over a few glasses of white wine!!

More conservative maybe, but mature?

Maxwell: Look into the lazure painting technique used to decorate Waldorf schools. Are you familiar with it? Can be absolutely gorgeous when done with a restrained hand. So much for so little and it always uses very "green" paint.

I can't point any fingers, since I drunk-text after too much wine.
