How To: Spice up an Ikea dining chair

Chicago Pictures - Ikea chair with yellow legs.jpgHot legs. We visited friends in Chicago and came back with some great ideas. One was at our friend Dave and Brenda's, where they have been experimenting with dressing up their plain white Ikea dining chairs by painting the bottom of eacy leg.

The yellow is temporary tape as they decide on what color and how high to paint the leg, but it seems just right to us.

As we all sat over brunch yesterday, we also came up with silver leafing the bottom of the legs instead of painting them solid. The leaf is easy to apply with spray mount and thin silver leaf squares (smooth on with soft paint brush). Then the leaf could be sealed with a coat of clear coat polyurethane.

This way a relatively inexpensive white chair loses the Ikea odor and becomes a little luxe. (Thanks, Dave and Brenda!) MGR

Could someone post links to online sources of silver leaf and Dutch metal leaf, plus info on how to do this inexpensively oneself. Thanks.
