Blu Dot: Three New Lamps
ICFF 2009

5-26-bludotfinal.jpg

icff-2009.jpgThese were the new lamps from Blu Dot - simple, beautiful designs that nicely round out their furnishings. We particularly liked the wood legged table lamp and thought that the red cords were a nice touch. This stuff isn't even on their website yet!

More info and pics below...

The two wood lamps are simple tripod designs that nicely pack flat (like everything Blu Dot makes). The black lamp will come in many powder coated colors and is actually assembled with magnets. You let the five side pieces assemble themselves.

I love the wood legged lamps. Any idea on how much they would retail for?

Ugh - lovely lamps but I hate looking at cords. Hate hate hate. Even in red.

You would think that with all the design minds out there, the cord would now be obsolete.

I agree about the cords. If this was a DIY or retrofit then the cord could be a little more acceptable. But to pay good money for something that looks like a DIY....no thanks.

I kind of like lamp cords. They seem integral to the function.

The lamp forms are beautiful, but I'm not liking the cords. The malleable form of the cord is a distraction from the hard lines of the lamp.

Still, it seems a good way to treat the issue - make the cord so obvious that, for some, the result will be perceived as artistic.
