ICFF 2006: Non Designs, Cherner & Trak-Kit

Non Designs
John Franklin's new collection for Non Designs was super cool and wide ranging. The lights above are submersed in water and dim when you draw a silver rod out of the handblown glass jar surrounding it. The chair below is called Mono and is an ergonomic shell floating above a steel rod frame. The padding is wool felt.

Cherner Chairs
We *heart* Cherner and got a chance to meet Norman Cherner's son at the booth. Both sons, Thomas and Benjamin, have been manufacturing their father's designs as well as their own since 1999. This is a treasure trove of classic designs with new, updated touches. The top chair has a leather padded seat and the baby cherner below is small scale.

Trak-Kit
These folks are going all out for the Plasma TV. With their hardware you can make your big investment literally float and swivel all around your room so that you can see the screen from multiple positions. It's too much for us, but it is going to rock somebody's world. Check out this demo.

I'm selling a vintage Cherner side chair, walnut. If anyone is interested, I've posted it on the AT classifieds. (I apologize for being so self-serving and chiming in on this post with my own agenda -- but someone else out there might love/want one of these chairs, too). Thanks.

Re: the plasma TV. Check this out from www.curbed.com:

How Much Is A Flat Screen TV Worth To You?

If the answer to the above question is less than $26,000 per year, you may want to check out this apartment. Douglas Elliman lists this one bedroom at 150 Nassau Street for $5,000 per month. But it can be had for much cheaper sans television:

Fabulous mint condition 1 bedroom apt in newly developed landmark building 150 Nassau. Great size master bedroom with marbled master bath, ample closets, surround sound throughout, CD/DVD players and 2 flat screen televisions. Just bring your toothbrush. WITHOUT PLASMA TV RENT IS $2800.

In the words of our email tipster, "A plasma TV for $2200 a month who are they kidding, with out the TV you
will save $26,400 yearly! I think Elliman has finally gone out of their f*cking mind!"
