Prouve Standard Chair from Vitra
Just love this chair, even though it may go hopelessly out of style in the next five years (because it's so popular right now). But Vitra has made it a little less likely to happen by releasing it in new colors.
Xpand Tables
These Xpand tables just have to be seen to be believed. They are an extraordinarily simple and yet complex design principle, which allows the actual wood of the table to expand and flex due to the slits in the wood itself. They are elegant, stable and really do expand so that you would never need a leaf again.

Disappearing Round Dining Table by NYIT Students
This round prototype table was just such a space saver we had to snap it. Designed by students, it MAY be slated for production (we were told) and is sure to be a big seller in NYC.

Several months ago I posted a link to the Xpand table and raved about it. It was just as amazing to actually see it in person. I have to have one of these. When it's closed you would never know it expands out and when it does expand it's a thing of beauty.
That's a Chinese table. Are the designers' Chinese? I saw one in greenish carved wood a long time ago and regret not buying it.
I, too, was amazed by the xpand table in person. Any throughts on long-term durability (and cleaning between the slats)?
Re Xpand table: What happens when food gets stuck in the slits/slats? On my dining table with leaves, food often gets in the cracks, and it's annoying (but not that difficult) to clean it out. I imagine that it would be a real pain with the Xpand table.
The Xpand Table opens quite wide (wider than what you see here) so if you have an issue with food in the slats you'll have space to clean it out. The table comes in a few different types of wood. If I remember correctly it's teak, redwood, pine, etc...
I actually purchased Xpand table through the show. I love love this table!!! It is beautiful, durable (don't worry about cleaning slits. You can pull the table and clean it right away) The company is in Austria and table was made in Eastern Europe. My apartment is small (around 400 sf)but the table doesn't look big at all when it is closed.
prouve going out of style? i highly doubt that. the chair's been around since the 30s. if it's lasted this long, it will surely last another 5 years and beyond.
any recommendations on where to buy it? i live in austin.
