Inspiration: Whimsical Furniture and Display at Le Vigne

When I walked into Le Vigne in Greenwich Village yesterday, I felt like I was seeing what would happen if Pablo Picasso, Lewis Carroll and Louise Nevelson met over drinks and decided to open an Italian wine shop. The decor is minimal and worn in a good way but the charm and genius is in the shelves and storage assembled from second hand tables, chairs, desks and shelves fabricated together whimsically and specifically to hold the many bottles of wine.

Le Vigne's owner, Carlo, is eager, friendly and excited to talk about his wine selection as well as the store. Although at first it may strike one as a bit random, the placement of the wines in their respective regions makes sense if you view the center mass of melded furniture as a sort of map of Italy with the north region being closest to the front door. What hits home especially in these times is the overall design was brought about and inspired from wanting to keep the budget as low as possible. Style born out of necessity!

The architect and design team behind the store is MADLAB and Spurse

This is just fantastic. I want to see it in person! Maybe next month.

Guaranteed to make you feel *tipsy* before you ever open a bottle!
This type of display is becoming more popular lately, it seems (Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, etc...) and is certainly eye-catching.

Saw it from across the street last week, was immediately compelled to keep looking. It's really great!

Thanks for featuring it here.

And yet it is the most uninviting store front. I live across the street and at first was eager to go in but still haven't made it across the threshold.
