15 Creative New Yorkers at Home

French photographer Valerie Dray visited the homes of 15 Creative New Yorkers for French Men's Style. We picked out a few of our favorites here...

• 1 In their Hudson Heights apartment, Kendra Smoot, a prop stylist, and her husband Seth Smoot, a photographer and little Stella.
• 2 Graphic designer Jemme Aldridge in her Williamsburg apartment.
• 3 In their Brooklyn apartment, former Domino editor, writer and photographer Brooke Williams, with her husband Josh Liberson of Helicopter Design, and their daughter.
• 4 In their Williamsburg apartment, Hollister Hovey, a blogger and publicist, with her sister Porter Hovey, a photographer.
• 5 In their West Village apartment, Joanna Goddard of the fantastic (and one of our personal faves)A Cup of Jo, with her fiancé Alex Williams, New York Times reporter

I can't imagine anything more pretentious than "creative New Yorkers" featured in French Men's Style. And yet, they all look pretty normal. This could pretty much be 15 Random New Yorkers.

The first and last photos are hilarious, with the subjects of the pictures mirrored in the nearby photos. Especially the horse one, can't stop laughing.

These were pretty ordinary apartments for creative New Yorkers. I liked the Hovey apartment.

However, are the French bowled over by the blank frame accent? Is is nouveau to them? It's been used over and over for years -- some might say used to death.

lots of creative types have regular, blah, or even messy homes. And most of the time their creativity isn't really visible. what struck me about these photos is the mediocrity of the photos themselves, which aren't able to come close to depicting anything creative!

I'm amused that their creativity is being called into question based upon a couple of simple photographs. The previous comments insinuate that these "creative New Yorkers" entered some sort of Men's Style France creativity contest. Chances are they were sought out because of the creative successes they have contributed to in their professional lives.

I think it's wonderful that they all seem to be ordinary, down to earth people. That alone should be an inspiration to all of us.

For the disappointed that feel they were excluded from being labeled creative, you still have a chance at winning other contests.
