We have an IKEA Grundtal rail in our kitchen. It's great for holding utensils, potholders and even a portable cutting board. But we ran across some unconventional uses for it that we love, too. They're useful for organizing tools for a potting shed (like this one from housetohome), and we really like the coat rack idea for the entryway after the jump...

Here's a clever way to hang your coats and bags in a small space (a terrific landing strip idea). And when guests come over, just add more hooks!

At under $12 you can't beat the price, and the Grundtal comes in 3 lengths. There are also some styles like the Bygel which has an optional cutlery basket you could put small items in, like keys or the library card.

I use a similar solution in my bedroom. Because i share an apartment with 5 other people, all my make up and hair products are kept in my room. I don't have this particular series, but another of ikea's kitchen solutions (the black metal ones), it's the best thing that ever happened to my organization.

Just FYI: OXO makes a variation of this for about $10, as well.

It's wonderful-- I use mine for a coat rack (coats with the little loops on the neck only). I can put SO many on there, mostly because they don't fall off easily. Great storage saver.

I use mine screwed into the walls at the end of my closet to hang all my necklaces from. I just unhook them and hang around the rail rather than buying tons of those little hooks. It works perfect and keeps everything in view and tangle free.

I use 2 of the BYGEL rods and hooks in my bedroom to store and display my excessive amount of bags and purses, it's a really easy way to add color and easy storage.
The image from Domino gives me an idea for displaying my collection of vintage umbrellas in my entry, rather than the boring stand they're in now........

For years I have used two of these rails to hang my heavy All-Clad pot and pans. The pots and pans on the hooks and the lids slide between the wall and rod. It works great.
