apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Blue (and Red) Monday

Another favorite color combination of mine is blue and red. I like a very light, almost ethereal blue with a brash pop of red but other tones and hues work just as well too.

I like the contrast between them — with blue being calm, peaceful and even moody and red being strong, confident and bold. I am still sometimes surprised by how well they can go together.

I have noticed that blue and red is a combination you often see in Great Britain, but not here, for some reason, though it is the color combination in both our flags.

I tend to love neutrals and sedated, moody decor yet I love these, esp. the French Chateau Bedroom.

My kitchen will be Martha Stewart Vintage Map, and I already have a red microwave. I can't wait to see it finished after these inspirational photos!

I like how the Gramercy Park Hotel does red and blue. Check out the third image on this link...

all these spaces are beautifully styled. red and blue marry really well. a few years ago i tried to persuade a client to combine both colours in her beach flat, but she was too afraid if it was too much. i wish i had these beautiful shots to show her!
i finally decided to register myself with your blog. you always have great articles worth to comment on. thank you.

I'm so glad you made this post! I found the red desk in the second picture at a garage sale and that is what got me started on our red and blue bedroom :) Still need to paint the side tables white, and find a new blue comforter/duvet/quilt/coverlet/whatever, and get more things on the walls, but some day it will be finished!

Red and Turquoise were our wedding colors. Great combo!

And the first picture totally has custom red and blue modgreenpod wallpaper in the bedroom. Awesome.

A few weeks ago someone commented on a post, saying that they were planning to do their nursery in aqua in red, and I've been obsessed with the idea since then. I don't have kids, nor am I pregnant, but I can't get the idea out of my head. These pictures gave me some other great ideas with alternatives to aqua. I love that first pic, and the butterfly wallpaper makes my head spin in the best possible way.

Doggie looks like a little queen in the birdcage...how cute! First space looks so whimsical, second room is simply "gawjus".
