And it's not just for Palm Beach anymore. We have been tipped off by our resident trend spotter and urban correspondent that coral is back, and it is red. Over to you Patrick:
My new favorite thing/color: red coral. It showed up (as shape, color and thing) all over last year's Kips Bay Designer Showhouse, and still seen on everything from beaded pillows at Ballard Designs to small specialty stores like Homer on the Upper East side and Ft. Lauderdale's wonderful "Freize" (lower LOWER East side!!) to Ebay, in the form of red coral auctions...

I saw a designer's living room once that had a big glowing white bookcase that displayed all sorts of coral. It was beautiful, but I kinda worry about the way coral is harvested... Patrick adores and values his little branch of color, but I wouldn't want to see knock off coral pieces sold at KMart.
not to sound snooty, but fyi, the red coral thing has happened and once it shows up in ballard and ballard, it;s pretty much done for. next stop, lillian vernon! this only really matters of course if you care how current you keep...if you have just always LOVED coral then it's a good time to buy up. sort of like paisley, now that PB has started selling all things paisley,
Mary-- I agree about harvesting concerns. But the piece I received I believe to be a Chinese antigue.I also just like the color, and like it as a motif, so both of those ways get past the harvesting concern.
Kari-- If you're going to slam something, get the name right. It's not ballard and ballard, Its Ballard Designs. And btw, "fyi" IS just a TINGE snooty.
and, oy, if you equate Pottery Barn with Lillian Vernon you have lost all aesthetic ability.
Gee, I hope the editors of Elle Decor, and their "What's Hot Now!" issue, featuring a piece of red coral on the cover, know that "the red coral thing has happened". Kari, maybe you could give them a call. But try not to sound snooty.
