apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Cream is the New White?

Well, we're not so sure about that. But we were inspired by these buttery walls yesterday to find more cream-colored rooms. We love an all-white room but thought we could get into a softened version, too. Check out a few buttery, creamy rooms after the jump...

I hate our cream walls. Before we moved in, our landlord asked if we had any special paint color requests and we said just white, but instead we got cream. Or last apartment also had cream walls with white trim. It makes everything in the apartment look yellowish. If it wasn't such a hassle, I'd repaint the whole apartment bright white.

drooling...

so much warmer and cozier than bright white, in my opinion.

Have always loved cream. made my wedding dress out of unbleached muslin. Like the old-paper shades too. The botanical prints warm up what could be a very stark space. Hmm, could I do that to my kitchen? Clear Contact paper old houseplant book I've been saving for some craft bland melamine cabinets? I could almost take it with when we move, too.

Add me to the hating on cream group. My current place has cream walls and two places before it had them. It's a depressing color to me.

All the first pic did was make me hungry. Like the cream walls in a kitchen though.

I really think in the second kitchen, the architecture makes that room, the high ceilings and the crown molding, and that door. The first two rooms were just so yellow. My apartment is done in cream with white trim. I like it ok. I don't really want to take on a forbidden repainting job, I would probably get around to painting it different colors if I was allowed to, i.e. owned or whatever. I don't just tolerate, it's not offending me, it just is.

My mom, however, when she saw the place (with me before I moved in) - "these walls, they look yellow to me, do they look yellow to you? Don't they look yellow?" I guess different people have different associations with the "generic" wall color, but it was quite obvious against the white trim that they were yellower than white. I think she thought maybe smoke-stained or something. Smoking does make the white walls turn yellowish.
