Last week I shared the problematic entrance stairway in my apartment, and received excellent suggestions for repair. Since then, I've been scheming. After seeing one at a friend's place, I'm thinking about using a mirrorball-style pendant at the foot of my stairs. Here are some examples of how good they look in various settings.
The original design in this style is the bottomless Globo di Luce Pendant introduced in 1968 by Roberto Menghi. Tom Dixon makes a modern version with a clear glass bottom to complete the sphere, which is the fixture actually called Mirror Ball. He also does rounded shade pendants in different metals. There are countless other pieces in this vein available out there in cyberspace.

Cool! I was surprised to see that they even looked great in less modern settings.

The mirrorball is fine, but to solve your stairway's problem, I would personally go for art on the wall alongside, lots of it!

A mirror only looks as good as what it is reflecting.

yes please!
totally agree with webherring in that you should be sure to experiment with different objects reflected in the balls...that being said, i think an entryway is a good spot for something like this since you might not want it in a room you spend large chunks of time in since it could be distracting or unflattering in certain situations.

Love the idea of its simple elegance; I say trust the mirror ball...it will find a way to reflect very nicely on its own.
