During Artwork, Crafts & Collections Month here at Apartment Therapy, one thing we're taking a look at is artwork in the home. What if your home were centered around a collection that included Pollack, Picasso, and Warhol? That's the reality at Donald Bryant's UES duplex...
That's a Richard Serra painting facing the master bedroom bed. A Robert Rauschenberg hangs above the bed in the guest bedroom. And in the study, a work by Andy Warhol.
While very few people's home collections rival that of museums, we can still take inspiration from the display of artwork in this home. The collection is given center stage with neutral surroundings that put the emphasis on the art. Pieces are featured prominently, with their placement centered on views, furnishings or architectural features of the space.

I actually like the vague, neutral interiors. I think that they sharpen the focus and give the art a chance to shine.

The first painting makes me want to cry. The last thing I want to see when I'm falling asleep is a huge black hole of death.

Agree with Birdablaze--I'd never sleep for fear that painting would suck me into its creepy vortex like the scene in Poltergeist.
