Dutch Door Roundup

Inspired by that awesome dutch door at Alex's Outdoor Home, we've gone in search of more. Wow, a dutch door in your apartment. How cool is that? We've never had one in our home, but we sure would like to. Check out more dutch doors after the jump...

We can't get over those modern green ones up there - they are our definite favorites.

I've been long fantastizing about changing my terrace door to one of these, but I decided I'm too worried about wildlife coming in. Not only do I have seagulls that swarm around my building (I'm a stone's throw from the water), but I have a wild, angry squirrel that frequents my BBQ grill.

I've always wanted a dutch door, but I have no idea how to go about getting one. Can you buy them anywhere? Or do they have to be custom made?

Dutch doors are probably the coolest thing, if you have a view to the outside that is... i like mine with a shelf on the bottom portion so you can place a vase or just lean on it and enjoy the view! http://img.hgtvpro.com/HPRO/2007/04/23/WeatherShieldDutchDoor_i.jpg

I don't really see the purpose of a dutch door. Wouldn't insects and birds fly in if you left the top open?

I had one in my last house. I miss it! Although there is a nagging impulse to walk through the door when only the top is open.

I would have the urge to bake a pie and cool it off on the shelf on the lower half.

One of the main reasons that we moved into my current rental house was the dutch door. It comes in handy with keeping the cat indoors while having the door open to let some air in during the warmer months. I love it and wish I had had one my whole life.

i think they're pretty awesome. i lived in an apartment with one of these once & i loved it. the top opened inward, and it had a screen on the outside to keep bugs/critters in their environment instead of mine.
