In honor of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum's 50th anniversary, the museum has mounted the exhibition "
Frank Lloyd Wright: From Within Outward." The exhibition shows the plans, models, animations, and drawings for 64 Frank Lloyd Wright projects — both the built and unbuilt projects. We were excited to see the newly commissioned models and animations for some of the unrealized projects - like Frank Lloyd Wright's "Plan for Great Baghdad" (1957), which included plans for an opera house, cultural center, and university. Many of the show's stunning 200 drawings (in watercolor, pen and ink) are on public display for the first time...

The show presents the 64 projects in chronological order, but ends with the plans for the Guggenheim Museum itself (out of sequence). The exhibition focuses on how Wright worked with the landscape surrounding his buildings, leaving the landscape untouched. Most of the impressive building models and digital animations were commissioned especially for this exhibition.
The exhibition "Frank Lloyd Wright: From Within Outward" is on view at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York through August 23, 2009.

If you're going to Fallingwater, try to also see Kentuck Knob. The two buildings are easy to see in one day.

My husband and I went to see this just this past weekend. I loved it, such a great opportunity to see his work. In addition to the architecture, the drawings themselves are art. I especially loved his night renderings, just beautiful!

Yes, definitely see Kentuck Knob! Very close by. And if you can, be sure to take the first tour (Fallingwater) of the morning -- it is longer and more intensive -- well worth getting up early for!!!

Thank you guys so much! I will definitely see both and I'll try to get that first tour at Fallingwater. I'm hitting Pittsburgh first (to see their ballpark--baseball and design are my two great loves) and plan to get to those on the way back to NYC.

Anyone have any opinion on whether Fallingwater is better in spring or autumn? I'm considering a trip this fall, but would delay if autumn in not the best season for it.
