A strong roof over your head. Didn't we say that Australian's are coming? Here is another example. Via Josh Rubin, Australian Architect
Entered into Architecture for Humanity's relief housing competition, FutureShack addresses the shelter needs of refugees and homeless persons around the world. Constructed from one ready-made twenty-two-foot-long shipping container, FutureShack is equipped with a minimum of industrial materials and is entirely self-contained, which enables multiple structures to be stacked and shipped to crisis sites. Maintained by solar power, FutureShack is ready for occupancy within twenty-four hours.
An example can be viewed at The Cooper Hewitt until October, 2004.

I live in South Africa and shack are a common feature in our urban landscapes, sending rich folk into frenzy as they move closer to their suburbs. it is actually more depressing than a,using and thi seems like a more reasonable solution than what we are more currently used to. The leading cellphone network company in south africa has adapted the use of containers in a form of phone shops to addresss the issue of telecommunication in our country. I've been baffled to fid that as yet no one has developed a system to house low income earners and address the overpopulation in our cities. This is arefreshing idea and i think architects like Sean need to make the world aware of such possibilities in our world. Well done Sean, It is REALLY inspiring.
