apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Helsinki Style
sköna hem

We wanted to start the weekend early with a little Friday afternoon eye candy. Lately we've been drawn to Nordic interiors — can you tell? This apartment in Helsinki is all about a little glamour and high-impact statements. We love the arrangement of artwork in the photo above.

The centerpiece of the living room is the Austrian chandelier designed by Emil Steijnar in the 1950s.

This study corner is in a child's room. The painting above the desk is of a zoo in Helsinki. And check out that Ericophone!

beautiful! The chairs and couches look so comfy! I wonder if that is something I could find in the states?

Whoahhhhhh... that's gorgeous. I love how a muted palette can bridge the divide between rustic antiques and bold modern pieces. Interiors that strictly adhere to a narrow style (like "Danish Modern" or "Shabby-Chic") have always felt contrived to me. This home defies definition... and feels much more livable and organic.

Wow I love this apartment, and I also like that portrait gallery with the engravings.

Great palette. This works for both warm and cold climates. Keep those rush down in the winter and store them in the summer. Those chair are wonderful and I would love to have a cabinet like that someday.

I am definitely more attracted to this style these days.

Keep those rugs down, not rush

Wow. This is my favorite house for awhile. I can't find a single thing to dislike. I love how the chandelier in the bed room echos the one in the living room -- they both remind me of a dandelion ready to be blown. And the books! I would like to be friends with the person who lives here.

The English or Saddle Arm style is very common in the US - Williams Sonoma, Mitchell Gold, George Smith, Bernhardt and many others have a similar silhouette in their catalogs...
