Herringboner: Hot for Hardwood

I've had a one-track mind lately...about floors. The project in my own house is coming along swimmingly, but I still wish there were an easy way to install a herringbone pattern on stairs. Alas, eye candy in many materials (hard and soft) will have to do for now.

Herringbone is an ancient pattern first seen in Roman architecture formed by arranging parallelograms typically at 90-degree angles. It is equally fitting in both traditional and contemporary interiors because it creates visual movement, and can be seen in all sorts of rough-hewn and polished finishes. Nothing that came from the inside of a fish ever looked so beautiful. Swoon.

I like the herringbone rugs. Otherwise I'm not really into herringbone patterned floors because that's how they were in Ukraine (in schools and homes). And I had to wash the hallway floor at school for being naughty. :) So no herringbone for me, but I can see why people appreciate the charm.

Love the title! Good one. Herringbone floors are awesome. I don't really like anything else.

I like herringbone patterns, as long as they aren't everywhere. There can be too much of a good thing.

I snorted a little coffee up when I read the title. Awesome. I think Ikea's missing the boat by not inventing awesome click-lock herringbone laminate.
