With all the recent talk of repurposing vintage belts — whether it's Reusing Belts for a Woven Stool Seat, Creating a Leather Floor Mat with Belts or Creative Uses for Seatbelts — we couldn't help but jump at the chance to wrap our heads (and belts?) around a way to build a more accessible version of And So To Bed 's "Handel Bed," as it costs around $3,000 — before having it shipped overseas...
While And So To Bed's version is actually cast metal with trompe l’oeil finishing, what a perfect opportunity to put CB2's inexpensive, much maligned, slightly heinous "indie" bed to great use!
We see chopping off a good two feet from the footboard posts and staining the exposed wood as the place to start, easily done before assembly. Should the posts be hollow, you may also need to have wood cut to size to fill the holes. You could also cap them with metal to match the belt buckles.
Next, if you don't already have a collection of belts on hand, a quick search for "vintage belt lot" on ebay brings up numerous options. These are also an easy item to thrift, and are usually available in abundance at any Salvation Army or Housing Works.
Lastly, the only tools you should need to attach the belts to the bed itself would be hand riveter (around $10), an awl for lengthening belting possibilities, and the belts themselves. Creative use of a horse bits to center and anchor the web would also look great!
Sorry, but that bed is creepy.

This doesn't appeal to me at all. I can see the creepy factor too.

Reminds me of an Hermes Scarf - but in 3D.

I love the bed, but I don't see the CB2 hack working out to have the same feel. It just seems like the wrong bed for the job. Maybe a different metal
