We spotted this family having drinks in their big window overlooking the Arno and had to snap a pic. What a lovely scene we could make out from the distance!
We spent a lot of time in the streets of Florence, walking, eating, shopping and peeking into homes here and there. Like New York, domestic life and street life are mixed, and you have the comfortable feeling of never really being far from home. Here are a few outdoors pics of streets and views to round off my Florence photo tour. We're here for one more week, but totally offline. Country pics will have to wait...

We walked up to this church, San Miniato Al Monte, which was not only a good hike (hot!) and a remarkable church design, but it also provided stunning views of the city from outside the old city walls.

Back into the city we walked! This provides a perfect example of how narrow the sidewalks are in Florence. This is typical, and barely enough room for a stroller at times - forget walking romantically side by side!

This is the Arno right in the center of town, where there is a small waterfall. In this pic there are people fishing and sunbathing. We spotted people in this spot at all hours, but particularly at night.

I took this pic of a table right near us in a restaurant that was just outside on the curb. House wine, a small table on a small street and super fresh food... what else do you want?

Sun setting on the Ponte Vecchio...

Nighttime!

It looks like though hot, you are having beautiful weather. I love the clouds above San Miniato. It almost doesn't look real. Have a wonderful time!
I was born in Florence and my mother never fails to remind me how hard it was to push my stroller through the streets. There is one long stairway in particular, very close to the Ponte Vecchio on the Santo Spirito side, that led up to our street. I get constant reminders of her labors when we walk by it.

Atimetodance: It's funny you mentioned the clouds and sky... On all of my travels to Europe, I've always thought the clouds and blue sky are so different from home, and somewhat surreal.

mns2000- I have never given the differences in the skies too much thought. I will have to look up more next time I cross over the pond! Those pictures are just so gorgous. In the photos the skies look painted on. It makes me feel happy to look at them :)

Just got back from Italy last week. Absolutely love Florence and Sienna. Amazing food and coffee!! I think I must have finished my annual quota for caffeine there... Went to Bologna, the food capital of Italy too.. Had authentic bolognese and it was FANtastic.. My husband and I are already planning our next foodie trip there... :)

btw if u do go to Bologna, look up a gelataria that won award for the best gelati in Italy.. we've looked up the best gelataria in every city that we were at in Italy - Rome, Florence, Sienna, Bologna, Venice. And this one is truely the absolute best..
