apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Inspiration: Temo Callahan's Perfect Irreverence

Full Disclosure: We are in love with this apartment. Possibly creepy in love. Possibly Glen Close in Fatal Attraction in love.

We managed to snag a copy of the new domino at the release party for their new book last night, but didn't crack the spine until late today. At first sight, the spread on Temo Callahan's smallish one bedroom had us running to the scanner...

As the director of the legendary Clarence House throughout the 1980s and 90s, Temo went on to start his own wallpaper company, Studio Printworks, in 2004.

Reminiscent of the infamous Vreeland "Garden-in-Hell" apartment, the space teems with asian-inspired reds and florals, as well as the bold, modern prints of his own Studio Printworks. Some of our favorite Kazumi Yoshida designs grace throw pillows in the living room and the headboard in the bedroom. Amazingly, Temo has lived the same space for 29 years.

Ick. All of those patterns squeezed into a tiny space are making me dizzy.

i love the boldness of it. but books in the kitchen? i love the idea of having books everywhere (hello, i'm a librarian!) ...but in my kitchen, they'd be covered in oil and flecks of food. he must do a lot of take away...

That red room is so comfy and elegant!

...And it's obvious to me that, like many other New Yorkers, he doesn't cook at home.

I bet the same "we" that are in love with this apartment were the judges of the fall color contest. That would explain a lot.

Icky Icky Icky......the hallway is nauseating and the kitchen looks like a cluttered and tacky fire hazzard.

That's awesome! People sometimes are too practical and unimaginative, and focus on things that are impractical and imaginative.

You don't have to live in something to like it and you don't have to use ideas that don't work for you if you can take something else away from the big picture.

I love the pattern in the hallway beyond measure, and I like what he did on the kitchen cabinets, but the books in the kitchen are a fire hazard, and I'm going to sic the NYFD on him.

Books next to the stove?!

He's asking for the fire department to come knock on his door.

i'd like to think that i'm bold and daring and artistic enough to adorn my living room area as he has. that red, luxurious space is amazing. i switch my furniture and decor around so often, i couldn't commit to wallpaper like that. and i've kept my walls white for the same reason. so i've got long fabrics suspended on rods as a compromise.

Just a little FYI.... I found two bolts of that pillow fabric at Diamond Foam and Fabric in LA, they had the green and the rust in stock, at the amazing price of $30 a yard. I remember it was REALLY expensive at the PDC Clarence House back in the day...

I feel claustrophobic just looking at it. Sorry K T G, but there's nothing I want to take away from this place. I need more breathing space.

I love it! It's definitely a whole lot of look in a small space, and it has the potential to sear your eyeballs, but I still think it's awesome.

Not my taste either, I don't think it's safe to decoupage ovens is it?

I love it! Clearly, the man doesn't cook.

Look at him. Does he look like he cooks? He looks like he spends all his time calling "incall and outcall" service numbers.
