With Patrick Swayze's recent passing, we all remembered that "Nobody puts Baby in the corner." I also remembered seeing a recent article in LoftLife magazine regarding a very familiar looking loft.

The article did not say it was the same loft as depicted in the movie Ghost, so I wasn't 100% sure. A little more digging around on the internet and I found this article via Toronto Condos. Turns out, it is indeed the loft in the film — sort of. The owner decided she did not want to disrupt her family's life with a full scale film production, so instead gave the blueprints of the loft to the filmakers and an almost exact replica was built on a Paramount soundstage!

That's so funny. Saw photos of this loft in a book on NY lofts that a friend gave me and I was so sure it was the one used in Ghost. I think it was the stairs that gave it away.

One of the most beautiful lofts I've ever seen. They nailed it.

I'm glad this mystery is solved. I was so certain when I saw the photos in Loft Life that this was the loft from the movie but couldn't find a shred of evidence to back it up. You would think that would be something worth mentioning when writing an article about the place and I did find several, but no mention of the movie. Now it all makes sense.

Sasha,
I've had that book for awhile now, If it's the same one, the cover shot is of the round table if I'm correct.

They did, however, shoot on the streets outside that building. I was walking through SOHO one night (it must have been '89 or '90) and the street was blocked off by a film crew. I asked one of the PAs who was in the movie and was told Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg which, at that time, seemed about the oddest combination I could imagine.

Love this.
Can we stick to tasteful interiors like this instead of so much kitsch?

It was a pleasure to photograph. I spent a half day there, shooting these photos loft for LoftLife. The longer I stayed, the more interesting details I found. LoftLife did a great job with the layout, running the photos very large.
