Marcel Wanders' New Antiques for Cappellini

1-14-wanders.jpg

Antique forms in uniform black and white. The simple monochrome paint accentuates the turned shape of antique furniture. Many love this look lately, with the popularity of DIY painting old furniture. Marcel Wanders' New Antiques for Cappellini sum up the look in all its glory. It comes at an expense, but is still plenty of inspiration for thrifting that perfect form doing it yourself. I love this look too.

Not to harp, but people should be careful about painting antique furniture themselves. If the piece is valuable, painting it will destroy the value. (Antiques people are all about the original finish.) Best to go for thrift store reproductions, or check with an antiques dealer before you paint an heirloom.

I remember the 90s, when everyone was nailing Home Depot moldings onto vintage MCM, and painting it white, to get the prevailing Shabby Chic look.
