Mirrored Stairs!

10-31-mirrored-stairs.jpg

Our readers have a love affair with creative stairs — whether it's an awe-inspiring bookcase, creative use of color or space-saving steps. We had to share these mirrored disco stairs that appeared in the portfolio of photographer Polly Wreford...

This design gives a glamorous shimmer (and some light) to the stair treads and could easily be completed with stick-on metal tiles for a look slightly less blingy. Via: Remodelista.

Love it! But, I think I'd like it more if the whole staircase had been updated. The old grainy wood kind of contrasts in a bad way. Imagine if it were a new modern staircase design with the mirrors....cute!

I want to like this...I really do.

But it looks terrible. It's just completely out of keeping with both the scale and architectural style of the house.

I also saw this in the portfolio and tagged it as a casa craving. I think it's a great look for a bohemian styled home. If done right, I don't think it's tacky at all.

Could look right in the right place--they make such a huge statement that I think everything nearby would pale in comparison. I love the light that mirrors bring, though, and stairs aren't usually an area we consider when decorating our homes.

Although it's not my style, I recognize what a creative idea it is. Unfortunately, pretty trendy, and the chances of someone outgrowing the idea and wanting to change it are pretty good. Which means more work, waste, etc.

On a hideous flight of stairs where it could only improve the look, this is kind of interesting. But this set of stairs is really pretty (look at the rails, newel post, treads, moulding...). Good idea in the wrong place.

Perhaps it's the uniform squares that look too much like a mirrorball. Before I took a closer look, I loved this. Maybe it could be awesome using the mosaic mirrored tiles from Ann Sacks--the ones featured recently on Dave Navarro's kitchen backsplash. Then, I would love it!

It's fine for a staircase in a disco or maybe the "mustang ranch" but otherwise I would have to say really tacky.

I like the idea, just not on those particular set of steps. Perhaps a more modern staircase would look better with this.

The idea is brill. But without seeing the rest of the space, I'm tempted to agree that this might not be the right place for it. We did a similar treatment with a single slab of mirror on each riser. That made the stairs seem to float, but the space was much more open and the stairs not so steep.

I do love the idea. OK, this particular application might seem a bit Romania brothel. But, that can be a great look. ~:o)

It looks horrible. Just based on the style of the steps and the bannister, it it totally out of place. I cannot help but think of a disco ball.

I LOVE the mirrored stairs. For me, the charm is the contrast of disco-tackiness with the rustic, weathered stairs. That keeps it from actually BEING something form the 70s.
