We loved this shot of a renovation and house addition in London by Object Architecture. That looks to us like an Ikea kitchen. And look at the washer/dryer in the kitchen - we're completely on board with that.

This is a dream multipurpose room that could practically stand alone as an apartment, not just a piece of a larger residence. It has all the essentials of home: a place to cook, eat, work, and relax (indoors and out). Which leads us to our favorite element: that terrific wall of opening windows.
Having the washing machine in the kitchen is pretty common in the UK - every home I've visited there has had that setup, and none has had a dryer...all air-dried...

Many of us in the UK have washing machines that also work as dryers. And yes, they're most often in the kitchen.

Hard to believe, ain't it yanks? No laundry room! No mud room either! How DO they do it??

I think they buy and keep less crap than we do. At least the couple I rented from in Dublin seemed to be much better at "editing" that Americans, including me.
I'm trying though.

Plenty of Yanks have no washer, drawer, laundry room, or mudroom. They're called apartment dwellers, esp. apartment dwellers living in older buildings, like I do in San Francisco.
Whenever I open any magazine like Real Simple or Martha Stewart Living to an article about how to fix up a humongous laundry room the size of my living room, I want to die of envy.
Not all of us Yanks living in large suburban homes.
