Sliver House by Boyarsky Murphy

This is pure eye candy for us. The sight of other people making cooler spaces than their neighbors out of less always puts a smile on our face. In this case, this West London house was built within the space of an old single-storey wine vault that served the adjacent pub. The front is 3m wide and 8m high...

Perhaps the most interesting thing about this house is how light and airy the architects, Boyarsky Murphy, were able to make it by stripping out detail and glassing as many walls as possible. While the Victorians to either side are extremely enclosed and bricked in to head off the elements, the modern architect can insulate extremely well with glass and get the benefit of some solar heat influx as well.

The only thing we want to know is how much did it cost?

i was actually thinking the opposite - i think the outside looks really neat, but the inside is bland and sterile.

Like the interior a lot. It doesn't look that small at all. I think they should've done a little bit more on the front of the house and a roof garden or terrace!

This reminds me of "pet architecture" in Japan. Think of an office the size of a vendor cart squeezed between 2 buildings and other such "cute" architectural interventions.

This is very exciting! I did my thesis design on the very same situation...little thin spaces between buildings..."urban insterstitial spaces" is the term I used, I think! It's so inspiring to see that this can be done. And "Pet Architecture" was my bible for the semester...a very fun book to look at.
