Tria Giovan's Photos of Folks at Home

New York photographer Tria Giovan shoots some amazing interiors. Unlike many architectural and interior photographs, many of her photos include people...

We couldn't get over that wide blue front door in the photo up top. And we were pulled in further because of the woman (and her dog) waiting to greet someone there, door half open.

With people in the photos, you're inclined to imagine a story taking place within these admittedly gorgeous interiors. Take a look at the rest of Giovan's portfolio here.

i love the idea of having people in the photographs. it makes the space look more alive and comfortable. seeing people enjoy the space makes the interiors even more beautiful.

Beautiful, gives the photos a soul. Brings to mind the great Julius Schulman who often broke with tradition and included people in his photographs of amazing MCM settings.

I know this is an article about people in photos... but I love that orange chaise! Wow! So pretty! Actually, I enjoyed seeing the Tiny division when there were people in the photos. It somehow gave a little more life and individuality to their rooms rather than it looking like the next picture. A little glimpse of what their life is like in what they've created and their pride in it.

I like seeing people (or pets!) in photos of interiors. They help me to understand the scale of a space and to appreciate the design. There have been some interiors where I simply couldn't imagine how the room would function because there didn't seem to be enough room between pieces of furniture for a human to navigate. One thing I really love about AT is how frequently there are pets (and kids) in interior photos.

I thought the first one was a little boy, not a woman.

I love the screen door.

Now I want a big blue front door. And a spaniel.

You know, BambiJo, you might be right. Maybe that IS a little boy.
