We came across Typemachine because Tim's an AT reader and we like to click around and see who people are when they give us a link and we have some spare time. Though we've never been that into font design, visiting
Typemachine totally converted us. It shows that, like interior design, it's all about having an eye for shape and color that is evocative of a certain time and place. Tim's eye is very, very good.

Check out these fonts: Airborne, from "old photos and scans of airplanes that the U.S. Navy used inbetween WWI and WWII," and Jah City, which is "loosely based on 7" Reggae records. If you aren't familiar, I will be posting a gallery of some of my favorite labels to accompany the font. They are truly unique and wonderful, much like the music that graces their vinyl."

Dang, thanks for the post! Very much appreciated! I really should put up some freelance work. :)
You're right in saying that type design correlates to interior design. The relationship of the negative space is equally as important as the positive space.
I studied typography in art school and spent several years working in a type house (I guess I just gave away my age!). Thanks for give type it's design props!
Thanks for the link - as a non-designer, I've just discovered the wonderful world of type. Anyone have any other great typography resources or books for a newbie font lover like myself?
I highly suggest you check out You Work For Them's website, they're amazing designers and really nice guys to boot. Here are some suggestions:

I love typography. It's something I've been into since I was a child, my first summer job was working on a printing press so I was exposed to various typefaces all day long and often would go into the office and watch production in action. Exciting stuff for a teenager.
Speaking of typography, when I picked up Blueprint magazine a few months back, I was quite impressed with their various typefaces and so I conducted a rather extensive search to find out what fonts they used and where I could purchase them. In case anyone cares, and this isn't some lame self promotion attempt because most of the AT regulars know I have a blog, but I'm thinking Karina and others may dig this, so here's a link to a discussion we had about Blueprint typefaces, what they are called, and how to go about purchasing them online.

When I'm bored I start downloading free typefaces. I love them.
Thanks Holly, I read your blog everyday, but somehow I missed this post!
